July 2012 - October 2012
Plural Work/Shop was a 4 month pop-up project in New Haven, CT. During this time, we relocated the LAYERXLAYER studio to a downtown storefront that functioned as one part open studio and one part storefront stocked with LXL products as well as goods from fellow artists, designers and makers whose work we deemed to be of a high quality. The entire space was designed, decorated and filled with custom-made furniture built by Patrick & Leah. Having a storefront workshop allowed us to work with customers on quite a few custom orders and gave the community a chance to see our design/manufacturing process unfold.
LAYERXLAYER worked with Timberland to help showcase hand-craftsmanship during their 2013 Fall Collection preview event. Not only was the event a re-introduction to their Earthkeeper's line that utilizes more sustainable materials and manufacturing methods, but it also happens to be the 40th anniversary of their signature "yellow boot".
For the visiting press to take with them, we designed a leather card wallet that was handsewn during the event by Patrick. Each recipient was also given the option to handstamp (monogram) his or her own wallet. The hand sewing and monogram were meant to instill each visiting member of the press with a greater understanding of the time and skill necessary to create products of a certain quality.
The event was held at WRK Design/Build in NYC.
